Becoming Whole: An Ethical Mandate to Develop the Self
This seminar will focus on the ethical obligation of any relational psychotherapist to seek out and remain committed to his/her own personal healing. We will explore themes from myth and archetypal psychology which provide a fascinating framework for conscious personal and professional self-development. When we as therapists are willing to learn from and recover disowned or rejected aspects of ourselves, we become capable of creating an environment in which our clients can do the same. However, when we refuse to participate in the journey into our own "underworlds" we are much less likely to be capable of creating a safe, healing environment for our clients and we are at high risk for a variety of ethical violations. Presentations, group discussions, and case studies will be used to explore the impact our personal growth, or lack thereof, has on our capacity for ethical practice.
